No condition set for formation of NUG: NPF

KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 11: Amid speculations and presumptions by various media outlets, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) said there was no condition placed before the PDA for formation of opposition-less Government.
A senior NPF leader said there was no condition from his party for formation of Nagaland United Government (NUG), adding that it is up to the Chief Minister to decide”.

“NPF has not given any condition”, he added.
“The three parties have already signed the resolution for formation of opposition-less Government called NUG”, a senior NPF Legislator said. He said it is now upto the Chief Minister to take a call.
But observing the political atmosphere, everything is not okay and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio doesn’t seems to be in hurry to formally form the NUG so that the current politicking doesn’t not have an effect on his party’s prospect in 2023 State general election.
It is understood he would ensure that this political alignment would benefit his NDPP party. And BJP certainly is easy to be taken for granted.
While there were reports of BJP giving a nod, a senior saffron leader said the party has not officially announced the formation of NUG.
The NDPP and Chief Minister Rio, have said that the onus lies with the alliance partner BJP for possibility of formation of an opposition-less Government. But before the nod from the saffron high command in New Delhi, Rio hurriedly convened a meeting and issued a joint resolution on formation of NUG, which reportedly irked the BJP bigwigs.
Rio is expected to convene another round of meeting soon with People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) and NPF.
Interestingly, the NPF said there was no condition from its side for formation of NUG but out of the 18 MLAs who should be in the Ministry, even if 7 suspended MLAs may be out of the picture. NPF has now 25 MLAs in the House of 60 Assembly. Out of 12 Cabinet berths, one is laying vacant after the death of former Minister, CM Chang. The Chair of Deputy Speaker and one post of Advisor are also vacant.

Undeniably that NPF camp would also make some noise if NUG takes off. It remains to be seen how former Chief Minister TR Zeliang would shepherd his restless legislators.
According to a source not only BJP but the NPF was also not keen on the proposed opposition-less Government. BJP source said even some NDPP workers were not in favour of an opposition-less Government.
