NMYO gears up for grand golden anniversary celebration

Nagaland News

Dimapur, December 8: The New Market Youth Organisation (NMYO) is poised to mark its golden jubilee on December 10 in Kohima on the theme ‘Retrospect the past, celebrate the present, welcome the future.’
Distinguished guests at the celebration will include Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Minister for Women Resource and Horticulture, as the special guest, and Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso, MLA, who will grace the occasion as the guest of honour.
Established in the early part of 1973, NMYO, one of the oldest youth bodies in Kohima Town, has been dedicated to coordinating various youth activities, fostering unity, enhancing social, cultural, educational, and sports initiatives, while contributing to the development and sanitation of the region.
Embodying its motto “suaviter in modo, fortiter in re, uno animo” (gentle in manner, faithful indeed, with one mind), NMYO has significantly transformed the outlook of the colony, maintaining a balance between a rural character and an urban outlook.
The organization’s noteworthy contributions extend to peacekeeping and security efforts within the colony. Their commendable initiatives range from organizing social works and sanitation drives to inspiring youth to excel in games and sports, particularly football.
The New Market Football Team, a product of NMYO, carved its niche as one of the most formidable teams in the state. Their achievements include victories in the Kohima Senior Soccer League (1994), Youth Soccer Championship (1995 & 1998), Peace Cup (1998), 1st Dimapur Invitation Cup, and other notable feats.
Under the guidance of NMYO, annual cultural events featuring song, drama, and debate competitions have become integral to the community’s cultural fabric.
In the realm of music, ZODIAC, the Pop Group from the colony, achieved recognition by winning the best band in the Nagaland beat contest (1988) and securing the 3rd position in the North East Beat Contest held at Shillong in 1990.
As the organization completes 50 glorious years in 2023, a series of events are planned to commemorate this milestone. It has extended invitation to all its members, past and present, especially those associated with the New Market Football Team, to join in the grand celebration on December 10.
