NLA body conducts spot verification of bridge construction


Dimapur, June 26: The Committee on Government Assurances led by its chairman, Dr Chotisuh Sazo, MLA conducted spot verification of the construction of bridge between Purana Bazaar and Walford, Dimapur on June 25.
The committee was briefed that although the initial work order was issued on February 16, 2010, work could resume only in the year 2017 due to various reasons like objection from BRO, court cases, etc.
The progress of the work so far are pile foundation – 3 piers completed, cable suspension bridge completed, retaining wall almost completed, reconstruction of two pile caps completed, three mid piers completed, piling work for the abutment wall completed. The committee was made to understand that the bridge will be completed by December 2019.
A press release issued by commissioner & secretary, N Benjamin Newmai, the committee verified the spot and was satisfied and encouraged the department to give all out efforts to complete the project within the stipulated time of December, 2019.
The committee also requested the department to endeavour to implement its observation of strengthening the cable suspension bridge for pedestrian safety or restrict usage completely and enhance the river training from 50 meters to at least 200 meters.
Other members of the committee that conducted the verification were Dr Imtiwapang Aier, MLA; YM Yollow, MLA; L Khumo Khiamniungan, MLA; Mhathung Yanthan, MLA & Advisor, Horticulture; H Khehovi, MLA & Advisor. Tourism; Toshi Wungtung, MLA & Advisor, IPR. They were accompanied by commissioner & secretary, Benjamin Newmai. Director of Urban Development with engineers and officials of the department briefed the committee.
