Dimapur, September 15: The Nagaland Indigenous People Forum (NIPF), the Nagaland unit of North East Indigenous People’s Forum (NEIPF), has resolved to strongly support the Government of Nagaland’s notification to carry out the Registration of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) and the Inner Line Pass (ILP) to cover the whole State of Nagaland.
In its executive meeting held on September 14, the forum was of the view that RIIN strives to protect indigenous people and its tradition. “It is a must to have a clean populace in our land for which RIIN is felt a necessity. On the other hand the influx of illegal migrants is quite alarming and is a threat to the indigenous people of Nagaland. For which all the existing ILP check points in the state needs to be further strengthened and implementation of the ILP(BEFR Act, 1873) specially in Dimapur as well as other entry points throughout the state be enforced at the earliest,” it said.
The NIPF urged the Government to implement ILP and RIIN at the earliest in letter and spirit in the interest and protection of the people of the Nagaland before the indigenous people are over run by outsiders.
The NIPF further requested all indigenous people of Nagaland to be vigilant and give no space for illegal migrants to have their foot into our land. “It is the equal responsibility of all the indigenous people to protect our land,” it added. (Page News Service)
