DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 2: The NHIDCL has withdrawn all further activities for the construction of 2-lane on NH 202 from Akhegwo to Akash Bridge (Jessami), under Phek district of Nagaland, stating that the local population have put up large number of structures on the proposed RoW with the sole intention of getting undue compensation.
In a letter to Nagaland Chief Secretary, the Managing Director of NHIDCL stated that they have prepared a drone movie which will convince that those structures, which are very recent, have come up in a very organized manner and with the sole aim to obtain compensation.
The Managing Director also sought to know what the district administration has done or what attempts were made by them to stop these illegal encroachments

Stating that the order of DC, Phek, dated July 20, 2021, has had no effect on the local people, the Managing Director stated that the district administration has been unable to stop the illegal structures, adding his own officers too have not informed/acted on this issue effectively.
The NHIDCL requested the Chief Secretary to direct the concerned DC to identity such structures which have come up recently and get them removed so that the compensation need not be paid to ‘mischievous persons’.
“I am afraid to inform you that till the structures are removed, we are withdrawing all further activities and have decided not to move the Ministry for approval of the project. I reiterate that we shall not take up this road unless the District Administration clearly demarcates the genuine structure(s) and removes the in-genuine ones”, the letter read.
