Dimapur, December 19: The Naga Hoho (NH) has condemned the “short sighted attitude” of the three Naga Members of Parliament (MPs) for voting in favour of the Citizenship Amendment Bill, which has now become the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 (CAA).
Expressing solidarity with all organizations and governments in various states opposing CAA, NH general secretary K. Elu Ndang condemned the Act as it is against the general wishes of the people of India and particularly the Northeast and the Naga people.
The NH noted that it has been strongly voicing against the Bill since its introduction in the Parliament in 2016.
The Naga Hoho maintained that CAA, if implemented, will empower illegal migrants to equate with bonafide Nagas and it will violate the fundamental rights of citizens. “The Act itself is anti-secular, discriminatory, anti-constitution and anti-indigenous people of the Northeast. It is worrisome that once citizenship is granted to the illegal migrants, the provision of Inner Line Pass (ILP) cannot protect the Nagas, though the Centre had announced exemption on those ILP protected states, the NH added.
