NEWJU holds coordination meeting with KPC

Dimapur, January 23: A team from the North East Working Journalists’ Union (NEWJU) comprising of its president, Ratul Borah, advisor, Sumesh Deka, and assistant general secretaries, Jitu Kalita, and Narayan Bahadur, held a coordination meeting with members of the Kohima Press Club (KPC) today at the KPC office.
Highlighting the purpose of the meeting, Advisor of the union, Sumesh Deka stated that “the people of North East states must unite through journalism.” Also citing the ethnic problems in the region, he said, “We think that we should be united and we should work together, and solve our problems ourselves.” He emphasised that journalists are non-violent people, and further remarked that the North East states are brothers and sisters.
In this regard, he also extended invitation to members of the Kohima Press Club to join the forum. Asserting that working together can resolve a lot of existing problems, he also deliberated on unitedly working together for the welfare of working journalists in the North East. He further exuded hope that the members would extend their cooperation and particularly stated happiness to see the female strength of working journalists in Nagaland state.
NEWJU president, Ratul Borah also reiterated the need for journalists in the region to come together so they can take up common issues such as the pension scheme among others for journalists.
President of Kohima Press Club, Alice Yhoshü expressed solidarity and support to the NEWJU.
Assistant general secretaries, Jitu Kalita, and Narayan Bahadur also spoke on the occasion.
