NESSIR

Dimapur, October 27: North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) on Wednesday held its 6th Graduation cum Foundation Day at DBIDL Don Bosco Campus, Dimapur in the presence of Dr. D. Gnanadurai, Vice Chancellor, St. Joseph University, Dimapur as chief guest and Dr. Hewasa L. Khing, Principal of Tetso College as special guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Gnanadurai encouraged the graduating students, referring to them as “Social Workers” to create peaceful world, to serve the needy with love and courage, and to be the source of hope to the society. He emphasized on emotional intelligence and emotional balance and attributed the lack of these in the present world as the reasons for impulsiveness and restlessness in society.
He urged the graduating students to be employment creators rather than employment seekers and earn dignity in the works they do by excelling in them. He also mentioned that it is their duty to create awareness in the world about the increasing global warming and pollution and questioned them how they are going to save the earth.
He concluded with the word from the Bible “Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before Kings; he will not stand before obscure people”.
Special guest Dr. Khing in her speech said that graduation marks the end of one chapter but the beginning of new journey and encouraged the graduates with “card allegory” to set aside what they cannot control and focus on what they can.
Mentioning the need to be agile and flexible, she said that education is a tool to change the world and it can empower and transform people. She shared a brief educational journey of her father Lt. Dr. P.S. Lorin to encourage the younger generations to achieve even greater heights and to use their education and learning to transform the world.
She added that while Nagaland today no longer lacks in education as thousands of graduates are churning out every year, the state however lacks in value system which facilitates the people to choose honesty and integrity over corruption and extortion.

Earlier, Dr. Fr. C.P. Anto, Principal of NEISSR and Founder & Director of Peace Channel, Dimapur while delivering the welcome address had reminded the students to have self-confidence and be social entrepreneurs who would bring changes into the society at large. He expressed that NEISSR has been a dream of the Catholic Church in Nagaland for years and the education is aimed to make self-reliant individuals thereby fostering peace.
A total of 49 students graduated this year. Keneisevor Chalieu, former Vice President of SCSC-NEISSR gave a speech on behalf of the outgoing batch and Nikhini Mosow was awarded the Best Student award during the ceremony. Also, on the occasion, the annual magazine and block placement brochure of NEISSR was released by Dr. Gnanadurai and the newly composed NEISSR anthem was released by Dr. Khing. (Page News Service)
