Dimapur, August 30: The annual North East Zone Inter Central Armed Police Forces Debate Competition on Human Rights 2020 was organised at Assam Rifles Training Centre & School, Shokhuvi on August 28 wherein 7 teams from NE based CAPFs i.e, BSF, CRPF, CISF, SSB, ITBP, RPF and Assam Rifles participated.
PJP Hanaman (Retd DGP, Meghalaya Police) and presently Member of Meghalaya Human Rights Commission, Limasunep Jamir, IPS, IGP, Kohima and Bano Haralo, Editor, Nagaland Today formed the panel of Jury Members of the event. The topic of debate was “Human Rights acts as a hindrance to the security forces in performing their duties.”
Keeping in view, the ongoing pandemic scenario and limitations in gathering, the competition was through Webinar. Inspite, of the critical COVID-19 situation in the North East States the event was well organized and coordinated at short notice by Colonel B S Madhok, Nodal Officer, Assam Rifles Training Centre & School, Shokhuvi.
Brigadier Arjun Segan, Commandant, ARTC & School addressed the participants in his closing remarks. He emphasized that people in uniform must constantly strive to adhere to the law of the land and uphold the values enshrined in our constitution regarding Human Rights.
While appreciating the efforts put in by the participants he made a special reference to the efficient conduct of the event by the organizers and conveyed good wishes to prize winning teams for semi finals and finals round of debate competition to be held at Kolkata and New Delhi. He also conveyed his personal thanks and appreciation to the three eminent judges for their valuable inputs and contribution.
A total of 28 speakers debated on the topic in Hindi and English, 14 speakers each FOR and AGAINST the motion. The main aim of this debate is to sensitize the security personnel about the importance of strict observance of Human Rights while dealing with the public.
The team of Assam Rifles secured 1st position and BSF secured 2nd position in English Language Debate category. In the category of Hindi Language, ITBP secured 1st position and BSF secured 2nd position. The two best teams i.e. Assam Rifles and BSF have been selected for English Debate and the two best teams i.e. ITBP and BSF have been selected for Hindi Debate to represent the North East Zone in the semi-finals of Inter CAPFs Debate Competition scheduled to be held at Kolkata on September 4 and 5.
