NE MPs Forum to be revived


IMPHAL, JULY 18: Members of Parliament from Northeastern States will revive their exclusive forum to pursue the “common issues” pertaining to development of the region.
Disclosing this in his maiden media interaction after being elected as an MP from Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency in Imphal on Monday, Lok Sabha MP Dr RK Ranjan Singh said, “The MPs of the Northeastern States across party lines have discussed the issue of reviving the NE MPs Forum and jointly proposed for the development of the region to Government of India particularly under North Eastern Council and DoNER Ministry.”
Informing that the matter was discussed recently by former officer bearers of the Forum, Dr Ranjan said that they will jointly propose to sanction some amount suggested by the MPs of different constituencies of the region.
Subsequently, DoNER (Development of North Eastern Region) Minister Dr Jitendra Singh convened a meeting of MPs of NE and discussed the matter. The meeting was attended by 22 Lok Sabha MPs and 13 Rajya Sabha MPs. The Union Minister briefed the MPs about the ongoing schemes and future plans of the Centre in the region. Secretary (DoNER) Dr Inderjit Singh, Secretary (NEC) Ram Muivah and other senior officers of the Ministry were present at the meeting. (Courtesy: AT)
