DIMAPUR, MARCH 10: The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has welcomed the resolutions passed at the consultative meet organised by Nagaland Government on March 9 at Kohima.
In a press release, the party congratulated the State Government, all political parties, tribal hohos, civil society organisations, churches and NGOs for “unanimously passing the resolutions, especially to conduct elections to the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) under the 74th Amendment of the Constitution of India”.
“The conduct of the ULB elections and having elected members run the ULBs will indeed expedite all round development in the urban areas of the State and will immensely help in uplifting the lives of the people. The NDPP has from its inception been a strong advocate and supporter of gender equality and it has been our endeavour to work towards this goal. We look forward that the unanimous passing of the resolution will be a further encouragement for our women to step forward in leading the people and will also be a stepping stone towards having women representatives in the people’s house, the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
“The NDPP has always stood for the early resolution of the Indo-Naga issue and have been supporting the positive negotiations between all the negotiating parties. At a time when the Indo-Naga talks is heading towards a conclusion, the NDPP appreciates and supports the resolution calling for the negotiating parties to arrive at a political solution that is honourable, inclusive, transparent and acceptable to the people and to work towards One Solution and One Agreement”, read the statement.
It appealed to the State Government of Nagaland and the citizens to work hand-in-hand towards making the resolutions a reality.
