NCW chief arrives Nagaland


Dimapur, June 8: Chairperson, National Commission for Women (NCW), Rekha Sharma along with Neha Mahajan, Counselor, NCW arrived Nagaland on Friday.
NCW is inter alia mandated to inspect institutions where women are housed as prisoners under the provisions of NCW Act 1990. Keeping this mandate, the NCW visited the District Jail, Dimapur and interacted with the female inmates. They were accompanied by the State team headed by the Chairperson of Nagaland State Commission Women, Dr Temsula Ao, Social Welfare officials, NGO representatives from Sophia Foundation, advocate providing legal aid to female inmates, etc. This was followed by a meeting with police officials headed by Renchamo P Kikon (IPS), DG (Prison) and deliberated on the challenges of the women prisoners and also women police personnel.
The NCW chairperson is scheduled to meet Governor of Nagaland PB Acharya on Saturday. (Page News Service)
