NCSU seeks revision of criteria in NIT for road works

NCSU seeks revision of criteria in NIT for road works

Dimapur, October 8: The Nagaland Contractors’ & Suppliers’ Union (NCSU) has appealed to the Road & Bridges (R&B) Department to split up the works for the proposed road construction in Nagaland by reviewing the criteria in the Notice Inviting Tender (NIT) advertised on October 2.
In a representation to the Minister, Road & Bridges (R&B), the NCSU said the criteria in the NIT on October 2 are “harsh enough, complicated and not applicable” to the local contractors (Class-1 registered contractors) to qualify for the works.
The union reminded that the Department used to split up the construction works in Kilometre-wise so as to enable the local contractors to get such works. However, it said the present criteria in the NIT has put hurdles that hardly one or two local contractors would qualify for the works and the rest of the Government registered Class-1 contractors, including those from ENPO areas, would not get any work as per the advertisement made by the Department.
The NCSU pointed out that in works under SARDP phase-1 four projects were clubbed together into one package and allotted to M/s Mayatas & Gayatri (JV) in 2014 in spite of the union’s repeated demand made to the State Government, Central Government to split the works into job-wise and to allot it to local contractors. “However our demand was not made thereby the projects resulted in total failure, and not a single road could be completed by them till today,” it reminded.
In view of the facts and circumstances, the NCSU urged the Department to review the present criteria in the NIT and thereby split up the works into road-wise at the earliest, for the interest of contractors in general. (Page News Service)
