National De-Worming Day launched at Kohima

Dimapur, February 12: Office of the Chief Medical, Kohima under the aegis of National Health Mission (NHM) held National De-Worming Day (NDD) programme at Government Middle School, Officer’s Hill Kohima on February 12, which was inaugurated by Dr. Khrievilhou Nakhro DPO (RCH/UIP).
The programme chaired by DPM, Avikali Jakhalu while welcome note delivered by Asst.Teacher, Assali Odyuo.
In the launching of NDD, DPO (RCH/UIP) Dr. Khrievilhou, said that children suffer from several harmful health issues because of worm infection such as: Anemia, nutritional impairment, loss of appetite, weakness & anxiety, stomach ache, nausea, vomiting & diarrhea and blood in stool.
He also said that on National De-worming Day, de-worming tablets will be given free-of-cost at Schools & Anganwadi Centres targeting children of 1-19 years of age, as children should be de-wormed, even though some children do not fall sick.
Benefits of de-worming children was also cited by DPO that direct benefits of de-worming controls anemia & improves nutritional uptake whereas indirect benefits of de-worming helps improve immunity, concentration and capacity to learn, improve work potential and livelihood opportunity also help break the transmission cycle resulting in lesser worm infestation in the community.
MO (RBSK) Dr. Katila Longchar also added saying the importance of NDD to the students and demonstrated 6 (six) steps hand washing at the school premises. Vote of thanks pronounced by Kekhrievonuo Phira, BPM Kohima Sadar.
