National campaign “Swachhata Hi Seva 2018” launched in Kohima

Kohima, September 15: The National Campaign “Swachhata Hi Seva 2018” was launched here today at Chandmari Higher Secondary School by Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, additional deputy commissioner Kohima.
More than 600 school students including officers and staffs from WSSO, DWSM PHED and teachers attended the function.
In her address, Lithrongla encouraged the students to inculcate good sanitary practices at home, at school and everywhere they go.
She also highlighted that a dustbin is a precursor of a person’s habits – what a person eats or how a person maintain his/her personal cleanliness can be seen through his/her dustbin. She also challenged the students’ to develop a sense of belongingness towards keeping the community clean.
The programme was chaired by Thepfulie Theünuo, Consultant DWSM PHED Kohima.
Vilavor Loucü enthralled the gathering with a beautiful gospel rendition.
“Swachhata Hi Seva” i.e., “Cleanliness is Service or Service to the people through Cleanliness” is a nationwide campaign which was kicked started today across the Nation.
Swachhata Hi Seva campaign and activities will continue till October 5.
Swachhata Hi Seva campaign aims to accelerate the momentum of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) in the run up to its 4th anniversary which was started on October 2, 2014.
This campaign will also coincide with the commencement of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birthday year celebration with a nationwide campaign.
This Campaign aims to reenergize the andolan i.e citizen’s movement and lay down the foundation of personal and community hygiene sustainability. This campaign also aims to reinforce the concept of “Sanitation is everyone’s business.”
The launching programme of ‘Swachchta hi Sewa’ (Cleanliness is Service), organized by WSSO, PHED, Mokokchung Division was held at the Conference Hall of ADC (Planning), Mokokchung today with Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung as the Special Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC called upon the Department to chart out a Master Plan for its campaign and work upon it by giving the best effort for successful implementation. He maintained that Youth who are active in every field should be the ambassador to rural areas in the mission, and urged the people to come forward and take initiative towards the success of the mission.
Delivering the welcome address, EE PHED, Mokokchung Division, Yanger Pongen gave the key note of the Mission. He said that SWACHHATA HI SEVA is a Central initiative programme in commemoration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in 2019. He called upon one and all to encourage one another to be a part on the Mission. The programme was chaired by Temsurenla, Consultant, WSSO.
