NASSA intensifies agitation demanding revocation of Dr Antony appointment

NASSA intesifies agitation

KOHIMA, JUNE 14: Irked over the silence of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) authorities, the Nagaland Legislative Service Staff Association (NASSA) today intensified its agitation demanding revocation of appointment of Dr PJ Antony as Principal Secretary, NLA, by launching poster campaign and also restricting his entry to the office.
Some posters pasted within the Assembly complex read: “We demand immediate revocation of the appointment order of Dr Antony (retired officer since 2020)”, “Exit! Dr Antony”, “Superannuated Officers should not be re-employed”, “Enough! No more retired officers in the NLA Secretariat”, “We condemn arbitrary appointment exercises”, etc.
Interacting with media-persons, NASSA Joint Action Committee (JAC) secretary Sezoto Theyo reiterated their demand and asserted that they would continue the agitation indefinitely till the appointment order of Dr Antony is revoked.
“This is our 10th day of agitation since the launch of pen-down strike on June 3 and subsequent wearing of black-badges, however till date there has not been any response from the NLA speaker and also the Government”, he said.
NASSA agreed that back in 2020, there was none among the staff of the Assembly to qualify for the post of NLA Secretary for which Dr Antony’s service was requisitioned from the Lok Sabha.
However, since Dr Antony has already superannuated from service, currently there are qualified officers among the State Assembly staff to take over as Secretary, he said.
JAC secretary Theyo charged Dr Antony of amending the service rule for employability of a retired officer up to the age of 65 years without consulting the existing Man-power Rationalisation Committee of the Assembly.
Inspite of the existing committee constituted by the Assembly Speaker in 2020 to revise the service rule, the term of which ends only on June 30, 2020, Dr Antony, the retired officer, has arbitrarily revised the service rules by himself to the disadvantage of the staff and to his own advantage, he accused.
NASSA JAC co-convener Ruyosuyi Vadeo said that there is no provision (post) of Principal Secretary in the NLA Secretariat Service Rule but it has been arbitrarily done by the authorities without even consulting the Post Creation Committee composed of seven members.
“This is shocking and undermining the Nagaland Assembly Service Rule”, he said.
“We have intensified our agitation and therefore gathered at the main entrance not to allow Dr Antony from entering into his office chamber”, said NASSA vice president Rocus Rino.
Meanwhile, on being contacted NLA Speaker Sharingain Longkumer said that efforts are being made to resolve the matter.
