Nahtei and Tsuchoi wins Nagaland Cross Country Championship

Kohima, November 19: In preparation for the South Asian Athletic Federation (SAAF) Cross Country Championship and 56th National Cross Country Race scheduled for January 15, 2022, the Nagaland Cross Country Championship was held today in Kohima.


The championship took place at Indira Gandhi Stadium here with Vice president of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), Abu Metha flagging it off in the presence of Chairman of AFI Technical Committee and President of Telangana Athletic Association Stanley Jones and Technical Official, AFI Sambhudas Bandopadhaya.
Over 200 athletes from the various districts of Nagaland took part in the competition.
In the senior men’s 10 km event – Nahtei N Wangnao came in first position with a time of 35:57 minute, followed by Cuvoto Medeo in second and Wede T Mero third.
The senior women’s 10 km – Tsuchoi T came in first position with a time of 43:55 minute followed by Songmo P and Peiheteile Esalung in second and third positions respectively.


The results of other categories are as follows:
U20 boys (8km): 1. Taliyanger Ozukum – 32:08 min, 2. Kughato Swu, 3. Lhouvisalie Mere
U20 girls (6km): 1. Niansai T – 29:26 min, 2. Vekholhulü, 3. Calista Tungoe
U18 boys (6km): 1. Muchiu – 23:20 min, 2. Shosu Pohena, 3. Ngonuyi Yhobu
U18 girls (4km): 1. Vesatsülu Khesoh – 18:33 min, 2. Chimmushe, 3. Nirmala Rai
U 16 boys (2km): 1. Kiutsu – 7:41 min, 2. Yongwan Kahkok, 3. Thejanguzo Pfukha
U16 girls (2km): 1. Neikethonuo Janet – 9:23 min, 2. Imtisangla Kangshou, 3. Khrotsho-u Tsuhah
Winners from each category were awarded with cash prizes. Senior men’s and women walked away with Rs. 20,000 for first place, Rs. 15,000 for second and Rs. 10,000 for third. The rest of the cash prizes were for the rest of the categories were Rs. 10,000 for first, Rs. 7,000 for second and Rs. 5,000 for third.
