Mokokchung, August 2: Minister, Agriculture and Co-operation, G. Kaito Aye has indicated that Nagas are probably closer than ever today to the long due Indo-Naga political solution, while also calling upon Nagas to unite for an honourable and acceptable solution.
Addressing the 2nd day of Tsungremmong Mini Hornbill Festival Mokokchung 2019 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex here, Kaito said, “We are probably closer than ever to the long due solution, it is therefore more than ever that we should show the world that we are bound by our sense of unity and collective priority of the Naga community which is a settlement that is honourable and acceptable that will bring a lasting solution.”
The Minister also emphasized on the importance of preserving and carrying forward our rich tradition and culture as it defines the unique Naga identity. “While we cannot and should not forget our past, it is not the past that define us but we define ourselves to the world through our behaviors and actions, let us therefore rise above our insecurities and unite as one as we are bonded together eternally by our core cultural elements through our history,” he said.
Stating that celebration of Tsungremmong is more than just feasting and merrymaking – it signifies unity within the Ao villages as it has a strong bearing on community building, Kaito called upon the Ao people, who are known as pioneers, to once more come to the front, take the lead in bringing about unity in Naga society.
“Let us take this occasion to seek the blessing of God not just for a bountiful harvest in our field but also for a harvest of peace and prosperity for which generations of Nagas have toiled, he added.
Earlier, Minister for Rural Development, Metsubo Jamir shared the Tsungremmong greeting while Alemtoshi Imsong, Chairman, Ungma Puso Menden shared the significance of Tsungremmong. Welcome address was delivered by President, Ao Senden, Chubawati Longchar, and vote of thanks was proposed by DC Mokokchung, Rajesh Soundararajan.
Cultural dance presentation from Chang Hoho, Lotha Hoho, Assamese cultural dance, traditional song by the DBs and traditional dance competition among the 6 range of Mokokchung district were some of the main attractions of the daylong programme.
