Nagaland YRS conducts selection trial for play to join Thonburi Football Club

Kohima, April 2: The Nagaland Youth Resources & Sports Department (YRS) today conducted Nagaland’s next top player selection trial to join Thongburi United, a Thailand based football club.
Several football enthusiast displayed their talent at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima in the presence of the Manager of Thonburi United and Sports Director Thonburi University, Kanabuadee Yamchuti officials of YRS Nagaland led by Director Kethosituo Sekhose and Nagaland Football Association (NFA) officials.
It was informed that the name of the selected player will be announced within a few days following which he will enter into a contract with Thonburi Club.
Earlier, addressing the formal programme of the trial, Development Commissioner & Principal Secretary, R. Ramakrishnan Ramakrishnan affirmed that the state government is committed for infrastructure development throughout the state.
He expressed hope that the coming of Thonburi Club to select a Naga player would be a new beginning in promoting the Naga players in the international level.
He also appreciated the department for carrying out various activities for the promotions of sports in the state.
Remarking that Nagaland is yet to have successful international footballers, he lauded Thonburi for coming forward to select Naga players and hoped that more such international opportunities would come for the local players.
In his brief address, Yamchuti expressed hope that through such activities the relationship between Thailand and Nagaland will be stronger.
He informed that the selected player will be given an official contract to play in Thonburi Club for the Thailand League.
Chairing the programme, YRS Director Sekhose informed that during the year the department would adopt a couple sports disciplines and conduct special training and tournaments.
He also informed that pre-Subroto Mukherjee Cup selection tournaments in all the 16 districts of the state, after which the state level selection will be held.
Meanwhile, the DYRS is also conducting a two-day Women Futtsal League at Akim Astro Turf from today.
The teams – Jalukie, Northern Angami and 2 from IG Sports Academy are competing in the tourney which will conclude tomorrow.
