Breaks 84 years old record for highest total in debut in Ranji trophy
Dimapur, November 3: Nagaland created history in its maiden Ranji trophy match against Mizoram , played at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovimi when it scored a mammoth 530 for 8, breaking 84 year old record for highest total in debut in Ranji trophy.
Nagaland also went on to win its first match by an innings and 333 runs with a day to spare.
On Friday, Nagaland had declared its innings at 530 for 8 and allowed Mizoram to bat in its 2nd innings. In the first innings Mizoram were all out at 106 on the first day itself.
In its second innings, Mizoram were again bundled out at 91 with Abrar being the most successful bowler for Nagaland claiming 5 wickets, while Ranchit and Tahmeed took 2 and Pawan Suyal one.
In its adventure to reach the highest total, Nagaland Abrar Kazi was 200 not out, Jonathan-72, Mughavi-58, Nitesh-45, Sedezhalie-24, Pawan KB-30 and Tahmeed Rahman-34.
In the first innings, Laibiakvela claimed 2 wickets for Mizoram, while Lalhmingmawai and Akhil Rajput took 3 and 2 wickets respectively.
According to noted sports statistician, Mohandas Menon, earlier, only Northern India had scored 459-7 (declared) against Army in 1934. Menon could not find any 500-plus totals on debut by any team.
Stepping into the Ranji Trophy circuit for the first time, the state from the northeast has started off with a bang. And, the fans hope that the team creates many such feats in the future.
