Nagaland to double farmers’ income by 2022

Dimapur, January 17: The Government of Nagaland is laying great stress on agriculture and is committed to double farmers’ income by 2022.
Towards this end, State Governor RN Ravi said under PM Kisan scheme, till date 1,58,104 farmers in the State have benefitted and Rs 79.86 crores credited directly to their accounts.
Addressing the State Assembly today, the Governor said his Government continues laying great stress on agriculture, which is not only the main occupation of the people of Nagaland, but also a substantial contributor to the State’s GDP. In order to achieve food security and economic stability the main focus has been on organic farming for which the State will soon be adopting an Organic Policy.
Human Resources
The Governor also expressed the need for giving utmost importance to the development of human resources as it is the key for accelerating the overall development of the State. He stated from 2020 academic year, the Department of School Education has introduced teachers’ diary to ensure continuous monitoring of teaming outcome of students and teachers performance in the schools.
He also stressed on the need to upgrade the standard of Polytechnics in the State stating that the process of accreditation by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) has started in respect of Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu (KPA) and Government Polytechnic, Kohima (GPK).
Health Care
On health, he said the Government remains committed for providing quality healthcare to all and under Ayushmanl Bharat- Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), and till date 2.4 lakh eCards have been issued to individual beneficiaries and hospital expenses worth Rs 8 crores have been paid to various empanelled hospitals he said.
Ravi said that the fisheries sector has been playing a pivotal role in the economic development by virtue of its potential for employment generation, income augmentation, and addressing food and nutritional security concerns.
Prime Minister’s ambitious ‘Neel Kranti Mission’ (Blue Revolution) vision to achieve economic prosperity of fishermen and fish farmers of the country and to contribute towards food and nutritional security is being fully implemented with renewed vigour in the State, he said.
Food Security
Towards ensuring food security, he said the Department of Food & Civil Supplies has achieved 100% online allocation of food-grains up to the Fair Price Shops (FPSs) level for the digitized NFSA beneficiaries. Further, Fair Price Shops Automation using ePoS Devices has been launched in Dimapur in October 2019 and the implementation of state wide automata of Fair Price Shops (FPSs) is under progress.
The Governor said the Government lays the greatest importance to development of roads as they are the harbingers of growth and development in any region or area of the State and announce that recently the NEC has sanctioned 4 roads for up gradation under the North East Road Sector Development Scheme (NERSDS). Further, 7 projects under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) and 13 projects under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) have also been sanctioned this year.
The Road & Bridges Department is also constructing 9 (Nine) roads under Inter-State-Connectivity (ISC) covering a length of 180.89 kms amounting to Rs. 631.8 crores, he said.
The Department of Information Technology Communication and the Home Department has successfully developed and operationalized the online portal for application and issue of online Inner Line Permit to the tourists coming to Nagaland. MyGov Nagaland portal was launched which is an innovative IT platform for building partnership between citizens and Government for the progress and growth of the State.
He said the Government continues its endeavor to develop sports and provide the requisite infrastructure and opportunities for our youth and in collaboration with the Baichung Bhutia Football Schools and Nagaland Football Association, the Department of Youth Resources and Sports has organized Coaches Development Workshop during October 2019 at I6S Kohima to boost football coaching skills through a specialized program by India’s largest football academy.
The State Government has renamed Music Task Force (MTF) to Task Force of Music and Arts (TaFMA) for an all-inclusive artistic ecosystem for the Music fraternity and TaFMA till date has conducted 24 sessions in 11 Districts of the State.
The Department of Tourism is continuously working towards building and improving tourism infrastructure in the State and undertaking development of Integrated Theme Based Tribal Circuits under Swadesh Darshan Scheme focusing on increasing events on culture and heritage, adventure sports and traditional games, food and cuisine, music and arts, etc so as to ensure tourist inflow throughout the year in every part of the State.
Tax revenue
Ravi said that the Taxation Department has collected tax revenue of Rs 433.45 crores from April-October 2019, as against the collection of Rs 375.99 crores during the same period last year, and it is most likely to achieve the target of Rs 631.55 crores for 2019-20. Nagaland State Lotteries is also likely to earn revenues in excess of Rs 23 crores this year. However, he added that the revenue generation is far short of the expenditure that we need for developmental and non-developmental activities.
The Prisons Department has started uploading the data of inmates of all Jails in the State in collaboration with State Legal Services Association (SLSA) and National Informatics Centre (NIC). Through the Govt, of India, Ministry of Home Affairs for E-prisons system and significant progress has also been made in strengthening the Fire & emergency Services Department in the State, he informed.
