Nagaland reports 8th COVID-19 death

Dimapur, August 9: Nagaland on Sunday officially reported one more COVID-19 death taking the death toll to 8. Out of the 8 deaths, one death is COVID-19 positive but cause of death is not due to COVID-19, the COVID-19 bulletin issued by the State health department said.
However, with no COVID-19 related deaths reported on Sunday, today’s addition to the death toll could be any of the 3-4 earlier COVID-19 related deaths, including two deaths on August 6, but not included in the COVID-19 death list reportedly due to non-receipt of confirmatory RT-PCR test result.
COVID-19 tally jumps to 2781
Meanwhile Nagaland on Sunday reported 93 new cases of COVID-19 taking the total cases in the State to 2781. But with 904 recoveries and 8 deaths, the number of active cases in the State is 1866.
Of the 93 new cases, 62 are from Dimapur (Armed Forces – 25, returnees – 12, traced contacts – 18 & frontline workers – 7), 20 in Kohima (Armed Forces – 9, returnees – 1, traced contacts – 10), 8 in Peren (Armed Forces – 8), 2 in Mon (Returnees – 2) and one in Zunheboto (Returnees – 1).
As per the severity of symptoms, 1,863 active cases are asymptomatic, 1 active case is mild and 2 active cases are moderate. The positive persons are receiving medical care at the designated COVID-19 hospitals and COVID-19 care centres. Active surveillance and contact tracing is also in progress to prevent further spreading of the infection.
Further, out of the 2,781 positive cases, the distribution across various categories of people are: 1,226 cases from Armed Forces, 1,072 cases from Returnees, 196 cases from Frontline Workers, 233 cases of Traced Contacts and 54 cases are of others.
A total of 28,722 samples have been sent for testing through RT-PCR till now and results of 26,962 samples have been received. In addition, a total of 18,659 samples have been sent for testing on Truenat.
A total of 2,032 persons are presently under facility quarantine in Nagaland.
