Nagaland records highest single-day spike of 90 COVID-19 cases, tally rises to 1174


Dimapur, July 23: Nagaland recorded the highest single-day spike of 90 COVID-19 cases on Thursday taking the tally to 1174. The active cases in the state rose to 644, while 530 people have recovered so far.
“Out of 237 samples tested, 90 positive cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed — 61 in Kohima, 26 in Dimapur, 2 in Peren and 1 in Phek,” Health and Family Welfare Minister S Pangnyu Phom tweeted.
Of the 644 active cases, an 82-year-old patient in Dimapur has been put on ventilator, while three others have symptoms ranging from mild to moderate, a health official said, adding the remaining 640 patients are asymptomatic.
Principal Secretary, Home, Abhijit Sinha informed that the positive persons are receiving medical care at the designated COVID-19 Hospitals and COVID-19 Care Centres.
Active surveillance and contact tracing is also in progress to prevent further spreading of the infection, he added.
Dimapur has reported the maximum number of COVID-19 cases in the state so far at 458, followed by Kohima at 278, Peren at 252, Mon at 99, Tuensang at 44, Phek at 18, Zunheboto at 12, Mokokchung at 9, Longleng at 3, and Wokha at 1. Kiphire is the only district in the state which has not recorded any case so far.
Meanwhile, Sinha stated that till date, a total of 20,126 samples have been sent for testing through RT-PCR. Results of 18,968 samples have been received and out of this, a total of 11,793 samples have been tested at the BSL-3 lab at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) and 654 samples have tested positive. In addition, a total of 13,497 samples have been sent for testing on Truenat. 12,766 samples have tested negative, and 428 samples have tested positive which have been sent for confirmation by RT-PCR.
A total of 2,821 persons are presently under Facility Quarantine. (Page News Service)

Highest single day spike in Kohima

Kohima, July 23: Nagaland’s capital today had the highest single day surge on COVID-19 cases with the detection of 61 positive cases. Kohima now has a total of 278 confirmed cases.
According Health department sources the 61 positive cases detected today in Kohima comprises of 37 technical workers from outside the state lodged in government facilities, 20 from different Armed Forces, while one is a returnee in QC and three are from different localities – one each from Lower Chandmari, Upper PR Hill and Forest Colony.
Among the armed forces, Chedema BSF camp detected the first six positive cases today while Zakhama army camp in Jakhama village and Chieswema 24 Assam Rifles have 95 and 3 confirmed cases respectively.
Sources said the three infected persons from the localities are linked to contact tracing with the positive cases detected earlier.
The Kohima District Task Force on COVID-19 has put in place all containment measures to stop the spread of the virus by sealing the three areas while contact tracing and medical surveillance have also been initiated, official sources said.
With today’s detection, at least 14 persons from 11 Wards and two villages in Kohima have COVID-19 cases. (Page News Service)
