Nagaland Premier Badminton League from May 29 in Kohima

Kohima, May 24: The 1st Nagaland Premier Badminton League orgajnised by Nagaland Badminton Club (NBC) under the aegis of Nagaland Badminton Association is all set to begin from May 29 to 31 at Indoor Stadium Kohima.
Announcing this during a press conference at Where is the Food restaurant here this evening, NBC president John Metha said altogether six teams – Beits Badminton Club Kohima, Smashers Kohima, Panama Shuttlers Mon, Shuttle Rockers Dimapur, All Beats Kohima and Raging Phoenix Kohima.
The different categories of events to be held in best of seven format are: Under-15 Years Boys Single, Under-17 Years Girls Single, Under-19 Years Boys Doubles, Mens Singles, Mens Doubles, Mixed Doubles (Men 40+And Open For Women), Mens 85+ Doubles.
A total cash prize of Rs 2.4 lakh has been earmarked for the winners. The prizes comprise of Rs 1.5 for the champions, Rs 80,000 for the runners-up and Rs 10,000 for the Player of the League (all with trophies).
Metha said that the objective of the league is to provide higher competitive platform for the badminton players playing the inter-district tournaments. He also said that the teams which are being owned by individuals are bringing in talented Naga players undergoing training outside the State.
NBC general secretary Joseph Sumi informed that the inaugural function on May 29 will be held at 10 a.m. while the valedictory session will be held at 4:30 p.m. on May 31.
