Kohima, April 4: Director of National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC), Johnny G Rengma while disclosing that Nagaland has been receiving huge funding through Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs today stressed on the need to create a separate department of Tribal Affairs in the State.
Interacting with media-persons here, Rengma said the Ministry of Tribal Affairs has been extending financial outright grant for development of tribal areas while Nagaland has also been receiving the funds.

Every government in the state has been implementing monotonous programme under the Ministry’s scheme, he said while suggesting that a separate Tribal Affairs department should be created.
He said that Ministry of Tribal Affairs through the NSTFDC was willing to extend loan upto ranring from Rs 1 lakh to 25 lakh to support individuals to take up entrepreneurship and enhance the economy of the State.
Meanwhile, Rengma, who was appointed as the non-official director of the Board of Directors of the NSTFDC, New Delhi in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, with effect from February 2 last, also urged upon the State government to patronize the Nagaland Industrial Development Corporation (NIDCL) by providing financial guarantee so that it can continue to give financial loan at 6% per annum to entrepreneurs in the State.
He, however, feared that NIDCL would be a defunct corporation if the government does not extend the financial guarantee with lack of return of loan extended to the entrepreneurs.
Meanwhile, with a view to encourage entrepreneurship in the State, Rengma revealed that the Confederation of Indian Tribal Entrepreneur, Nagaland Chapter in line with StartUp India programme would be launched in Kohima on May 7 at Hotel Japfu at 11:00AM.
He said that Industries and Commerce Department is the nodal department for all StartUp India programmes, which aims to extend financial assistance and support to those people wanting to engage in self-employment.
He said that the Confederation will function under Industries and Commerce Department Nagaland and would give the collateral financial security responsibility for the entrepreneurs registered with it. It would be a channel between the financial institutions and the entrepreneurs to avail financial assistance, he said. (Page News Service)
