Kohima, August 29: Nagaland today joined the nation-wide event ‘Fit India Freedom Run’ to promote fitness among the citizens.
Held in commemoration with National Sports Day, it was conducted by observing SOPs and social distancing norm in view of COVID-19 pandemic situation.
Nagaland’s youth resources & sports advisor Er. Zale Neikha flagged off the event here at Indira Gandhi Stadium in the presence of officials from department of youth resources and sports, state coaches and some volunteers from National Service Scheme (NSS).
Er. Neikha said the event aim to encourage fitness among the people and also to help every individual to get freedom from obesity, stress, laziness, anxiety and sickness.
Highlighting on National Sports Day, he said August 29 is celebrated as National Sports Day to honour the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chang Singh who has won gold medals in the year 1928, 1932 and 1936.
Further, Er. Neikha challenged the youth to stay healthy and fit.
Youth resources & sports director Akumla Chuba informed that the department could not conduct the event in a grand manner this time in view of COVID- 19 pandemic situation.
It may be recalled that Kiren Rijiju, union minister of youth affairs and sports launched the nation-wide fit India movement run on August 14 through online platform.
This event is targeted to encourage fitness among the masses while following COVID-19 protocols. The Fit India Freedom Run is yet another endeavour to strengthen the Fit India Movement envisaged by Prime Minister and involve the citizens to embrace fitness as a way of life.
According to Rijiju, “this event is even more important at this time because staying fit is the key to building strong immunity, which is the need of the hour to fight COVID-19.”
Dimapur: Commemorating the National Sports Day, a Fitness Run under ” Fit India Movement” was conducted on August 29, with the initiative of District Sports Officer Dimapur, in collaboration with NSS Dimapur.
Vice President, Dimapur District Sports Council, Tsenthungo Lotha, flagged off the Fitness Run at Airport Junction Dimapur.
A total of 30 NSS volunteers representing 8 colleges and 3 program officers participated in the fitness run which commenced from Airport Junction to Agri Expi Junction Dimapur.
