Dimapur, December 22: In a surprise to Government employees in the State, the Government of Nagaland has already released December salary to its employees by December 20, the last working day before the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
This is not the first time the State Government has release December salary to its employees before the end of the month. But most employees failed to recollect the year when it was done.
“Yes, advanced December salary was released earlier also but I can’t recall the exact year,” said a senior Government employee who did not want to be identified.
With another Christmas likely to pass with no Christmas gift from the Modi-sarkar at the Centre in the form of the much awaited Naga solution, the advance December salary to employees by the State Government appears to be a conciliatory move. There is also the mounting anger among citizens against the Citizenship Amendment Act, and the State Government support to it.
However, no employees are complaining although not everyone is happy with the release of advance salary, but for a different reason.
Given Naga people’s penchant for spending during Christmas and New Year holidays, the fear among some employees is that the advanced December salary is likely to get exhausted within a week leaving most families facing financial hardship in January next year.
January is one of the financially challenged months for most families in the State with children’s school admissions, buying school books, uniforms, etc.
“With money in the bank, the temptation to spend it is too strong, particularly during the festive season,” said an LDA working in a Government department here in Dimapur.
