Nagaland Governor has correctly assessed law & order situation: NPCC

Dimapur, June 28: President of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee, K Therie today said that the Nagaland Governor has correctly assessed the law and order situation the state.
“There is some hope,” he said.
In a press release, Therie said ever since the regional party adopted the policy to merely facilitate and support the ongoing dialogue on August 19, 2005, it has gone beyond the prescription of the Constitution.
He said the regional party has abandoned the Constitution and laws of the land, adding, “Running parallel governments and allowing taxation by multi governments by way of extortion and forced collections was accepted.”
“Many were kidnapped while others assassinated, some of them in the open. Cases were registered against ‘unknown miscreants’. Faction courts have confiscated even land, fines collected and land forcefully occupied and paid for the sake of payment. Red handed extortionists and murderers were arrested with unauthorised weapons but were released without trial of cases,” the release stated.
The NPCC further stated when public come to Government for shelter, they direct the public specially entrepreneurs to compromise with extortionists. Administrators were used as mediators to compromise while Police were even used for faction leaders’ bodyguards, it added
Stating that all development departments share development funds, the NPCC said funds released under Art 275(1) to be utilized for construction of 223 buildings across Nagaland have vanished while the said buildings do not exist.
It also stated loans were taken from Banks and later lenders were threatened with dire-consequences.
“No contractor or supplier is free from paying commissions. Factions get to know the sanctions and release order before the beneficiaries (Contractors and Suppliers),” it further stated.
“Police and factions’ tax collectors sit together at the gates, extorting all transport trucks in all the gates across all Towns, in both ‘in’ and ‘out’ gates,” the NPCC stated adding, “as a result, Nagaland State does not have any industry while continuous extortion has strangled the growth of economy in the State.”
Regional Government is responsible for the all round systemizing of illegal taxes, it added. (Page News Service).
