DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 21: As Nagaland is experiencing extreme cold weather in the last 24 hours, the mercury is expected to drop further as the regional meteorological centre predicts at least 4 districts in the State to hit a minimum temperature of 0°C.
In a press release, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), in coordination with Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati, informed that Kohima is expected to hit a minimum temperature of 0°C with a maximum temperature of 11°C, Phek is expected to have a minimum and maximum temperature of 0°C and 12°C respectively, Zunheboto a minimum and maximum temperature of 0°C and 18°C respectively, Kiphire 0°C and 14°C respectively and Tuensang 2°C and 16°C respectively.
These are some of the districts in Nagaland where extreme changes in weather phenomena have been observed, NSDMA said.
Meanwhile the sky is expected to somewhat clear up from February 22, with the Met forecasting partly cloudy sky with dry and sunny weather over the State between February 22-25. The temperature during both day and night is also expected to increase marginally during this period.
However, rainfall is expected to make a comeback around February 26 but for a short duration, which will be light and scattered and is not expected to have major impact. Districts like Peren, Kohima, Phek and Kiphire are expected to experience scattered rainfall at few places around February 25.
The NSDMA has urged the public to be vigilant and not to shelter under large trees and near river banks to prevent unnecessary risk to life from lightning and flash floods.
The NSDMA has also requested all DDMAs and other line Departments that are responsible to attend to any emergencies caused by natural calamities and to be on alert to save lives and properties during this monsoon period.
