Nagaland COVID-19 tally crosses 1000 mark

Dimapur/Kohima, July 20: Nagaland on Monday reported 33 new cases of COVID-19 there taking the total confirmed cases in the State over the 1000 mark to 1021. However, with 484 recoveries, the total active cases in the State are 537.
“Out of 454 samples tested, 33 positive cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed – 16 in Dimapur, 12 in Mon and 5 in Kohima, said Minister for Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom.
The State also recorded 39 recovered cases on Monday.
Nagaland took 57 days to detect more than 1000 cases of novel Coronavirus, since the detection of the first case on May 25 last.
The recovery rate of COVID-19 patients in the State which had fallen to as low as 36.82% on July 3 from 68.65% on June 20 is slowly improving and currently stands at 47.4%.
The district wise confirmed cases are Dimapur – 403, Peren – 248, Kohima – 198, Mon – 95, Tuensang – 44, Phek – 17, Mokokchung – 7, Zunheboto – 5, Longleng – 3 and Wokha – 1.
Kiphire is the only district out of the 11 districts without any positive case till date.
Among the 537 active cases, Dimapur has 241, Kohima – 91, Peren – 89, Mon – 87, Tuensang – 10, Phek – 8, Mokokchung – 5, Longleng – 3, Zunheboto – 2 and Wokha – 1.
Among the active cases, one in Dimapur is in ventilator while another is with moderate symptoms and two (one each in Dimapur and Peren) have mild symptoms. The rest 533 are asymptomatic patients, informed a health department’s update.
The 484 recovered persons are 163 from Dimapur, Peren – 158, Kohima – 107, Tuensang – 34, Phek – 9, Mon – 8, Zunheboto – 3 and Mokokchung – 2.
All cases are linked epidemiologically, which means there is no community transmission, said Principal Director of Health and Family Welfare Department, Dr Vizolie Z Suokhrie in the weekly update of COVID-19 issued on Sunday.
Of the confirmed cases, 28 frontline workers attached to quarantine centers have been tested positive while 10 from outside quarantine centres under contact tracing have been tested positive too, he said.
He said that 99% of the cases are asymptomatic as of now, and 93% of the positive cases are within the healthy 18-44-year old age group.
Armed forces (military and paramilitary) contributes to more than 20% of the COVID-19 cases in the State with 229 of them testing positive in Dimapur and Kohima districts till Sunday. (Page News Service)
