Nagaland CEO, senior officials visit Mokokchung & Wokha districts

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 25: Against the backdrop of incidents of pre-poll violence in Wokha and Mokokchung districts, top State officials visited the two districts on February 25 to review the law and order situation and held consultation with various political parties and civil societies for maintaining peaceful atmosphere and conduct of free and fair elections.
The visiting officials, Chief Election Officer, Nagaland, V Shashank Shekhar, Home Commissioner, Nagaland Abhijit Sinha and Nagaland Director General of Police, Rupin Sharma, appealed to the leaders to sensitize the public to maintain peace and not to indulge in any election related violence.
CEO Nagaland expressed confidence in the district administrations and law enforcing agencies for taking proactive measures to maintain the law and order in the districts and exhorted them to remain vigilant during the poll and post poll period. He informed that even after the polling is over, if the conduct of electoral malpractices has been found against any candidate, action would be taken as per the law.
State Home Commissioner said webcasting recordings will be reviewed to ascertain anomalies carried out by any candidate. He also informed that voter’s information slip is not allowed as identity proof, as one can vote only on producing EPIC ID or any other 12 identity cards approved by the Election Commission of India.
DGP, Nagaland, urged the party representatives to create awareness among the electorate to avert creating any situation that may lead to violence. He assured sufficient security forces and appealed to the parties and civil societies organisations to inculcate good behaviour among the party supporters and general public so that election can be conducted in safe and free and fair manner.
All stakeholders assured to abide by the guidelines of the Election Commission and to extend support and co-operation to the district administrations and police for successful conduct of election, informed a CEO office release.
The CEO’s meeting with civil society organisations at Wokha was attended by representatives of Lotha Hoho, Lotha Eloe Hoho, Wokha District Village Council Chairman Association.
Ao Senden, Watsu Mungdang and AKM attended the meeting at Mokokchung.
The team was also accompanied by Hiazu Meru, Joint Secretary & OSD to CEO, Sharon Longchari, and Joint CEO, Ajit Kumar Ranjan.
