Nagaland beat Sikkim by 5 wickets


Women’s Senior 1-Day Trophy

Dimapur, November 1: Nagaland women bounced back from the loss to Jammu & Kashmir in a tight game yesterday to beat Sikkim by 5 wickets in a thrilling game of the women’s senior 1-day trophy at the Eden Garden in Kolkata on Monday.
Batting first after winning the toss, Sikkim managed to put up a fighting 159 runs in 48.2 overs. Sikkim batters got off to a steady starts and at the halfway mark was cruising nicely with 80 runs on the board with 3 wickets down. But the introduction of Limatola Jamir (7-1-20-2) changed the complexion of the game in Nagaland’s favour.

With tight bowling from Limatola, Sikkim batters resorted to risky singles resulting in two quick run outs. She also took two wickets. For Sikkim, Jetsung top scored with 51 and Rinki contributed 32.
For Nagaland, apart from Limatola; Gautami, Elina Muru and Kiran picked a wicket each.
Chasing the target, Nagaland overcame the target in 41.2 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. Poonam top scored with an unbeaten 91 off 102 balls and Gautami made 20. The most critical partnership of the match came between Elina Muru and Poonam, an unbeaten partnership of 60 runs for the 6th wicket. Elina scored 10 runs but she faced 54 balls which resulted in the team victory.

For Sikkim, Tabita picked up 2 wickets while Pranita, Purni and Anjeel took one wicket each.
Nagaland will next play Meghalaya on November 3 at Eden Garden, Kolkata.
