Dimapur, May 14: Principal Secretary & Commissioner Food Safety, H&FW, I. Himato Zhimomi Tuesday inaugurated the State Food Laboratory to Level – 2 Laboratory at the State Public Health Laboratory, Kohima.
Speaking on the occasion, Himato said that the State is fortunate to be installing the State Food Laboratory, Level – 2 which is equipped with high-end equipments of the best quality which will give high accuracy results. He said entrepreneurs in food business can now come to the lab for food analyzing before selling their products in the market since there is a penalty for adulterated foods sold to the public and requested them to comply with the food safety rules.
Zhimomi said officers and staff of the State Public Health Laboratory should also educate and let the public know the importance of the State Food Laboratory. He also assured to see the needs of the Department so that there are no hindrances in their workings and asked the department to cooperate with its sister departments.
Principal Director & Additional Commissioner, Food Safety, H&FW, Dr. Vikeyie Losu said the State Public Health Laboratory department is progressing step by step from its dormant stage to become the first state in the entire North East to be installed with the State Food Laboratory, Level – 2 today.
Dr Losu added that fishes with formalin which was once sold in the local markets should be a lesson for all to check such menaces and called upon the department to be vigilant of such food.
An overview and highlights of State Public Health Laboratory was given by Food Analyst, State Public Health Laboratory, H&FW Department, Khrukutolu Veswuh. Retired Principal Director, Dr. Sashimeren Aier, who attended the function, also gave a brief history about the functioning of the department in the past.
