Dimapur, February 6: Naga organizations have condemned the Republic Day speech of Nagaland Governor RN Ravi, who is also the Centre’s interlocutor to the Indo-Naga peace talks.
“The speech undermines the political struggle of the Naga people and questions the integrity of the interlocutor. We understand that the speech is not independent from the larger political scheme of the Government of India (GoI) and we assert that this must stop. It is clear that the Governor is being used, to create more problems than to resolve the Naga issue,” said a joint statement issued by the Naga Hoho, United Naga Council, Arunachal Naga Students’ Federation and Zeliangrong & Rengma Council, Assam.
The statement said a coordination meeting of the 4 organizations on January 28 at Guwahati took strong exception on the Governor’s R-Day speech.
The statement said Government of India’s delaying tactics will only backtrack what has been achieved this far. “We recall the Framework Agreement and do not see any reason to drag on the talks for more than 24 years. The Government of India must take a clear stand on the long pending Indo Naga political issue with utmost and prove its commitment with utmost sincerity as world’s largest democracy,” it said.
