Naga issue is in final stage; commitment to ENPO will be fulfilled: BJP President

Nadda Rio

KOHIMA, FEBRUARY 14: Having failed to stand on its 2018 election slogan “election for solution”, the BJP today tried to woo the people of Nagaland by asserting that a lot of effort was made to resolve the Naga Political Issue by its Government in the Centre and has brought it to final stage.
Wooing electorates during NDPP-BJP election campaign in Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima, BJP national President JP Nadda asserted that the Centre has been making a lot of effort to resolve the Naga Political Issue and it is in the final stage.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is enthusiastic to resolve the Naga Political Issue while Union Home Minister Amit Shah has tirelessly worked on it”, he said.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton and BJP president Temjen Imna Along are witness that the Centre has taken lots of efforts and the BJP Government have tried level best, he said.
“It has come to the final stage and in the coming days we will go in that direction”, asserted Nadda while trying to cover its failed assurance made in 2018.
On the separate statehood demand of Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO), he said that they have been discussing the issue with the Union Home Minister and whatever commitment has been given to them will be followed in letter and spirit and BJP stands committed to it.
He said that BJP is the only party with national commitment and regional aspirations and therefore it is working on the requirements of the region while highlighting that the BJP Government has extended thousands of crores for the infrastructure development and also improvement of health, education, road and agriculture sectors in the region.
“We understand the national commitment but also understand the regional aspirations and we have to assimilate and go forward”, he said.
Nadda also assured full support to Rio’s NDPP not only during election but after election to see that a strong Nagaland goes forward with the support of Prime Minister Modi.
“BJP is committed to go forward for next five years under the leadership of Rio in the State”, he said.
Nadda said the BJP believes that Nagaland is on the path of development under Rio led BJP-NDPP alliance as the State is in the path of normalcy, peace and prosperity.
Insurgency has reduced by 80% and while AFSPA has also been removed from about 66% of the area while Nagaland continues to remain peaceful, he said.
Nadda also highlighted various developmental prorammes funded by the BJP Government at the Centre for Nagaland including road, health, education and other infrastructures worth thousands of crores.
Rio regrets Naga issue could not be resolved
Chief Minister and NDPP leader Neiphiu Rio regretted that even as the State Government tried to bring a solution to the Naga Political Issue, it could not conclude despite all the legislators being together.
“The 60 members came together to run an opposition-less government to show our commitment that we want a solution. But, I hope if we continue to work with dedication and commitment, solution will be achieved as the Prime Minister and Home Minister have shown the commitment for the solution. We hope that we will create history so that Naga people will be pleased with us”, he said.
Rio also asserted that NDPP-BJP partnership is based on trust with the agenda being peace for development.
At the top of the agenda is the decades-old Naga issue to be resolved because it is the crying and voice of the people, he said.
Once peace comes to the State, the situation will change drastically as we have huge potential in many things but because of the unresolved Naga issue the dreams are shattered and it has also been a blockade for development and progress.
“NDPP-BJP alliance is on a strong ground and we believe our combination will return with a thumping majority and definitely cross 40 seats”, he said.
Conveying gratitude for the support to the Nagaland Government and assuring a firm coalition between the NDPP and BJP, he said “We have come to the last part of the first term which has been successful and provided a stable government giving out the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Northeast.”
Saying that today NDPP-BJP stand together to face the mandate of the people, he expressed confidence that their friendship and alliance will go a higher step and come back with a thumping majority.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton Patton asserted that the alliance is committed to work with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of development for all in equal footings.
NDPP-BJP alliance is a popular Government and has completed the first term before which there (2013-18) was the worst Government ever Nagaland had as most of the time the legislators had to spend in Kaziranga.
Nonetheless, under Rio’s leadership, the BJP-NDPP alliance is giving a stable government and even the law and order has been peaceful in the State, he said.
He said that the people of Nagaland are happy with the current development process which has reached the remotest part and hopeful of a resounding victory in the ensuing election.
In this, he expressed confidence that the alliance will do better and get absolute majority to form the government. After the next election, BJP legislators in Nagaland will work on the directive of Central BJP leaders and continue under leadership of Rio, he declared.
He also called upon all BJP and NDPP leaders and workers to give best effort for a thumping majority.
Chaired by NDPP spokesperson Merentoshi R Jamir, NDPP secretary general Abu Metha delivered the welcome address while BJP Nagaland president Temjen Imna Along tendered the vote of thanks.
