DIMAPUR, JULY 19: Against the backdrop of chief opposition party NPF joining the ruling PDA coalition, the Core Committee of Nagaland Legislators is set to meet with leaders of armed Naga groups on Tuesday and Wednesday.
According to reports, the core committee is scheduled to meet with WC, NNPGs at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Chumukedima, and NSCN (IM) leaders on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Aside from the backdrop of political realignment in Nagaland, the meetings also assumes significance as they come close in the heels of former Director of Intelligence Bureau (IB), AK Mishra’s clandestine visit to the State last week.
The Core Committee was formed recently after hiccups in the erstwhile Joint Legislators’ Forum (JLF).
The JLF was headed by the Speaker of the Assembly but now the Core Committee is headed by the CM. Like JLF, this Committee would also perform as facilitator in the Naga peace process.
The Core Committee is also expected to meet groups who are engaged in talks with the Government of India.
The talk between the Centre and the Naga groups is almost complete, except the NSCN (IM)’s demand for the Constitution and Flag.
The NSCN (IM) has climbed down from sovereignty to shared-sovereignty with a separate Constitution and the Flag; the demand which the Union Government was not willing to concede.
