DIMAPUR, JANUARY 19: A fourth win on the trot on Tuesday could not propel Nagaland into the next round of Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy.
In the final match of the league stages (Plate Group), Nagaland defeated Manipur by 8 wickets at the TI Cycles Ground, Murugappa, Chennai.
Batting first after winning the toss, Manipur could manage only 129 for the loss of 8 eights in 20 overs.
In a relatively easy chase, Nagaland could hunt down the target in 17.1 overs, with guest players Chetan Bist (60 runs) and Shrikant Mundhe (36 not out) once again delivering match-winning performances.
From among the Northeast states in Plate Group, Nagaland was the only team to go unbeaten through the entire league stage.
Out of the total five games, they won four while the first match, against Chandigarh, was washed out.
This proved crucial in the final standings as Nagaland and Chandigarh had to share points; Bihar could qualify for the next round after they won all of their five games.
On the second day of the 1st G Rio memorial U-19 (Boys) inter-district tournament, Mokokchung defeated Kohima by 47 runs.
After winning the toss, Mokokchung batted first and posted a total of 169/4 in 25 overs. Nripen Rai struck an unbeaten 86.
In the second innings, Mokokchung bowlers restricted Kohima to just 122/5 in 25 overs. Odilemba and Neizekho took two wickets each.
The second match between Dimapur and Tuensang was disrupted by rain and DLS method had to be used to revise the target.
After winning the toss, Tuensang batted first and were 126/6 in 22 overs. However, after rain interrupted play, the target for Dimapur was revised to 137 in 22 overs.
A half-century from captain Tohuka Zhimo ensured that Dimapur could chase down the target in just 12.2 overs with 7 wickets to spare.
