MTC bans single use plastic bags

Dimapur, April 9: The Medziphema Town Council (MTC) has banned all single use plastic bags less that 50 microns specially plastic bags and plastic cutleries including Styrofoam and Thermocal disposal plates with effect from April 15 within the MTC jurisdiction. The continues use of single use plastics shall be penalized, warned MTC administrator and ADC Medziphema, Thsuvisie Phoji.
This is in line with the State Government policy of restricting the use of plastics in Nagaland with a view to eradicate the menace of plastic and the serious environmental and ecological challenges posed by rampant use of plastic.
Meanwhile in an attempt to promote and popularize alternatives to plastic bags, the MTC has requested all entrepreneurs including NGOs, Church leaders to come forward in production of paper bags and cloth bags, disposable bio-degradable cutlery from areca nut leaves, jute and bamboo, etc. It informed that incentives will be provided to entrepreneurs producing paper bags and cloth bag making.
