More than one-third of Nagaland voters are BJP members: Along

Nagaland News

Dimapur, April 17: Minister for Higher Education and Tribal Affairs Temjen Imna Along, who is also the president of Nagaland BJP, on Saturday reflected on the growth of the party in the State – how it had only Paiwang Konyak as BJP legislator not long ago, but has 12 legislators in the present PDA government.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the BJP State Executive meeting here at IMC Hall in Dimapur, Along said that the journey has been a long one for the BJP. He shared that the number of party members in the State has also increased from 40 thousand to 4 lakh, out of the 11 lakh voters in the State.
Reminding the party workers that the next State Election is not far away, he appealed to them to put more efforts and understand that they can’t expect things to happen if they don’t work hard.
Along claimed that sinister conspiracies against the party were being spread across the country, and asked the party workers to reach out to the people and make them aware of the various schemes and policies of the government.
According to him, BJP is for all who works on the mantra “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas”, and has always been at the forefront in every disaster.
Along also mentioned that there is a challenge in addressing the grievances of the booth-level karyakartas but while the issues are understandable, the leaders cannot take care of every issue individually.
He appealed to the karyakartas to avoid complaints, help each other grow, and not to work just for money as BJP follows a hierarchy and the members should not behave like “Congress propaganda party which only works during the elections”.
“Our duty is to bring people out of deprivation,” he said, asking the members to work for people even in constituencies where there’s no BJP legislator.
He asked them to be accessible and lauded the Yuva Morcha, Minority Morcha, SC/ST Morcha, and Kisan Morcha for their “small but significant works”.
The meeting was attended by most of the party legislators in the State, leaders from different mandals and morchas as well as the central leadership of the party including national general secretary (Org) BL Santosh, general secretary (Org) Nagaland & Manipur Abhay Kumar Giri, national spokesperson and Nagaland in-charge, Nalin Kohli. Santosh and Kohli, however, participated in the meeting virtually.
Resolution on Naga issue
Later in the meeting, the party unanimously resolved to wholeheartedly support an early, inclusive, and honourable solution to Naga political Issue. It appreciated all the Naga political groups which have been engaging in peace talks with the Government of India, and all the groups which have entered the peace process by heeding the voice of the people to pave the way for a final settlement.
Stating that the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre has taken positive steps for settlement of the political problem by entering into a Framework Agreement with the NSCN (IM) and Agreed Position on resolution of Naga Political issue with NNPG (WC), it, however, appealed to the negotiating parties to expedite the process of finalisation so that there can be lasting peace in Nagaland which will positively facilitate the process of all round development and economic upliftment of the State.
“We reiterate our support to the final settlement which is honourable and acceptable for the Naga people,” the party resolved. The political resolution was moved by P Paiwang Konyak, Minister for Transport, Civil Aviation, Railways & Land Resources.

The “economic resolution” moved by Minister for Public Health Engineering, Jacob Zhimomi mentioned that the various programmes and policies for the economic upliftment of Nagaland are in sync with the aspirations of the people and the party extends its fullest support to the Act East Policy and the Northeast Economic Corridor.
