Hardeep Puri

DIMAPUR, JUNE 25: Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri today disclosed that more than 75 housing projects have been considered for a total of 32,335 houses in Nagaland under the PMAY-U
Inaugurating the Demonstration Housing Project (DHP) at Sematilla, Dimapur, under the aegis of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U), virtually from New Delhi today, Puri said a critical aspect of mission implementation has been the shift from age-old construction practices to newer and greener construction processes that are more sustainable.
Houses developed under PMAY-U have optimised the utilisation of natural resources and building materials; reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions; and conserved energy consumption – all this while considerably speeding up construction, he added.
The Union Minister said the implementation of the Demonstration Housing Projects initiative under the Technology Sub-Mission reflects the philosophy of the Government to pilot innovations and build local expertise. The Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC) have been handholding these Demonstration Housing Projects, and helped in raising awareness about new construction technologies across India, he said adding most of the States are adopting new construction technologies today.
Under PMAY (U) alone, more than 16 lakh houses are being constructed using green technologies, he further said.
Expressing happiness that the Government of Nagaland has also joined this growing movement by using a new technology, namely Prefabricated Sandwich Panel System – EPS Cement Sandwich Panels with steel structure for the Demonstration Housing Project (DHP), he said successful completion of this project at Sematilla would build a strong case for viability of housing construction in this area.
This DHP will have facilities such as rain water harvesting, fire-fighting works, LED street lights, Solar panels for electricity supply and water heating system.
The Minister hoped that the construction of this DHP would help the Government of Nagaland while also building greater acceptance of new technologies.
He looked forward to seeing how this initiative will fare and hoped that that many emerging technologies will be replicated in future construction projects based on the success of this project
Nagaland Minister for Works & Housing, Tongpang Ozukum thanked the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on behalf of Nagaland Government for allotting the DHP project at Sematilla, Dimapur.
He said this kind of project would be a boon for thousands of students and working women from rural areas flock to urban areas like Dimapir searching for work and education and most of them are from economically weak section.
He hoped that the infrastructure is utilized as intended and said he would try to complete it within the stipulated time.
