More reports of World Environment Day celebration

Dimapur, June 7: World Environment Day was celebrated at Wokha through online competitions in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
To mark the occasion, online competitions for poster making and essay writings were organised by Wokha Forest Division and Doyang Plantation Division. The theme for this year was “Ecosystem Restoration” while the topic for the competitions were “Innovations on Restoration of Ecosystems in Nagaland” for Essay Competition in the senior category (Class 11 and above), and “Environment Conservation” for Poster Competition in the junior category (Class 10 below).

In senior category for essay competition, Mhathung Humtsoe, Class-12 from Don Bosco Higher Secondary School (DBHSS), Wokha won the 1 st prize, followed by Wonchibeni Khuvung, Class-12, Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Wokha and Marlin Humtose, BA 6th Semester, Mt Tiyi College, Wokha as second and third prize respectively.
Mhadeno Tsanglao, Class-12 and L Chibeni Shitiri, Class-12, both from GHSS, Wokha, won the consolation prizes.
For the poster competition in junior category, Thungdemo Y Tsanglao, Class-10, DBHSS, Wokha emerged winner, followed by Chumlano Y Odyuo, Class-5, DBHSS, Wokha and Nzanroni Yanthan, Class 10, Christian Model High School, Wokha in second and third position respectively.
Consolation prizes were awarded to Longshithung Tsanglao, Class-8, Little Angel’s School, Wokha; Liwoni Kyong Khuvung, Class 6, Fernbrook School, Wokha; Mhayani B Ovung, Class 9, Libemo Memorial School, Wokha; Mhabemo R Tsopoe, Class- UKG, DBHSS, Wokha; and Thungdemo, Class-1, Bethesda School, Okotso.
With the initiative of Rural Development Department, a tree plantation drive was organized in every VDBs under MGNREGA on World Environment Day.

On the occasion, Commissioner, MGNREGA, Neposo Theluo directed all villages to observe WED by planting trees, especially fruit bearing trees which will give environmental as well as economic benefits to the people.
