Dimapur, January 28: The 9th National Voters Day 2019 was observed on January 25 under the theme “No vote to be left behind” in the Kiphire DC’s conference hall with M. Shayung Phom as the special guest.
ADC & ERO, Kiphire, Reny Wilfred while giving the keynote address mentioned that every individual has the right to cast their vote if he/ she attains the age of 18. He said that the main aim of celebrating the National Voters Day is to increase election participation by exercising one’s vote. At the same time he also encouraged all the voters to use their vote in the right way because one vote counts and it matters a lot.
Short speeches were delivered by Kepenshi, Kiphire ICON and Thrisela, Campus Ambassador.
Prizes were given to the winners of essay writing competition, painting competition, ELC members and Best BLOs. After the felicitation programme pledge was administered by M. Shayung Phom, Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer.
Longleng: In Longleng the 9th National Voters’ Day was observed under the theme: “No Voter to be Left Behind” at DC’s conference hall on January 25 with Deputy Commissioner Longleng, John Tsulise Sangtam as special guest.
The DC said the day is observed to reaffirm our responsibility as good citizens of a democratic country and to realize the importance of right to vote for effective democratic system of our nation. He asserted that it is not only right to vote but a responsibility to exercise our franchise to elect a responsible and right leader to lead our nation. John also pointed out that in order to have a clean Electoral Roll for clean elections no bogus voter should be enrolled and at the same time no genuine voters shall be left out therefore, value of each vote is counted and its participation is required. He also appealed to left out voters to come forward to enrol their names in the E/Roll and extend their cooperation and support to the people who are managing the electoral system.
Earlier, ADC & ERO Longleng, Temsuwati Longkumer administrated the pledge on NVD and Longleng District Icon, Moile Longkongly exhorted the gathering.
Pughoboto: National Voters Day was celebrated at Pughoboto on January 25 at ADC Office. ADC Pughoboto, Phuleshe K. Yepthomi challenged the people to be assertive in exercising their right to vote and not be influenced by selfish interests.
In a democracy, the voice of the people is supreme and this voice is translated into the democratic system through the right to vote, he said.
Prizes for winners of quiz competition, slogan writing, debate and half marathon race, which were held last year were given away. The Best BLO for the year 2018 was won by Ghushepu of Polling Station number 3 Ghokimi Village.
The NVD pledge was taken at the end of the programme.
