Mokokchung Police arrest 9 in Chungtia murder case

DIMAPUR, MARCH 6: Mokokchung Police has arrested 9 persons in connection with the murder of one Imkongjiba Kichu from Chungtia village, who was attacked between Satier and New Camp area by unknown miscreants and had gone missing last month.
Basing on the FIR filed on February 21 last, police personnel had rushed to the spot for verification and conducted search but the victim could not be located.
According to a press release issued by Mokokchung Police, inquiry was initiated to ascertain the facts and rescue the missing person. On February 22, the body of late Imkongjiba Kichu was recovered in the isolated jungles between Satier and New Camp.
Police team identified the victim and an inquest was conducted in the presence of the Magistrate and other witnesses, the release said adding post mortem was conducted the next day.
Following the death of the missing person, a District Level SIT, headed by SDPO, Mokokchung, was set up to investigate into the case.
The said that the SIT conducted a thorough and professional investigation in the case and collected various technical evidences including CDR, CCTV footages and analysed them. In the process, of investigation, the SIT summoned and examined more than 30 people.
Based on the technical and other evidences the SIT has so far arrested 9 persons, who have been identified as Chubanichet (31); Meyalepden (49); Chepdakmayang (28); Tongpangtsuba (40); Lipoktemsu (28); Imtizachet (27); Supongsunep (35); Temsuakum (32); and Bendangsunep (29), all from Chungtia village.
The SIT has also conducted Crime Scene construction and recovered various evidences from the crime scene including the suspected weapons (wooden stick about 3 feet) with blood stains at the place of occurrence in the presence of witnesses and magistrate.
Further investigation of the case is still going on, police said.
