Modern College Week enters third day

Kohima, February 28: Modern Week 2024 of Modern College, Piphema entered the third day today.
As part of the Modern College Week various events are being held including literary, cultural and sports.
Modern Week 2024 will also witness cultural extravaganzas such as folk songs, ethnic fusion show, traditional games and sports events from February 26 to March 1.
It kicked off on February 26 with a Mini Marathon under the theme ‘Run for Good Health’ organised by the college in collaboration with 7 Assam Rifles Ghaspani Battalion.
Special guest Keneiwhelie Kimho, Chairman, Piphema ‘A’ Village flagged off the marathon which covered a distance of 10 km starting Dairy Farm Point, Modern College Piphema to Sumi Hotel Piphema ‘A’ and back to Dairy Farm Point along the NH 29. The marathon was an open competition for persons above the age of 18 where 73 enthusiastic runners with 53 men and 20 women comprising of students, youths, teachers, alumnus and military personnel from the districts of Kohima, Chümoukedima and Dimapur participated.
In the Women’s 6 km category, Gülü Tetseo of Modern College secured first position while Anjali and Keviveno Mejura secured second and third position respectively. Phamsa Konyak, Zidila and Sabeinuo Solo won consolation prizes.
In men’s 10 km category, Kezhakhrietuo Mere won the first position followed by John Minj and Thejangulie Sote securing second and third position respectively. Khriedi Mejura, Penyei and Khumpise T Sangtam secured consolation prizes. In women’s category, the winner completed the race in 19 minutes while winner of the men’s category finished in 29 minutes.
The winners walked away with cash prizes of Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 in both categories. Consolation prizes of Rs 1000 each were also awarded to the 4th, 5th and 6th position holders in the two categories. They also received medals and citations. A certificate of achievement was also awarded to all the participants who completed the race successfully in the stipulated time. The patrons of the event were Manish Kumar, Senior Planning Manager, Landmark Group Dubai and Charani Hekha, Ecom Trading Manager, Lacoste & Guess, Chalhoub Group Dubai.
A short prize distribution ceremony was held at the venue after the completion of the race with Lt. Colonel C.H. Jacob, 7 AR Ghaspani Bn as special guest. The programme was led by Chanini Lokho. C. H. Jacob while delivering a short speech exhorted the participants and stressed that success does not always belong to the fastest or strongest but instead belong to those who work the hardest. He later handed over the prizes to the winners. The programme ended with a vote of thanks from Shahilo Khing.
