
Dimapur, March 3:As a preparedness measure, District-level mock exercise simulating an earthquake was conducted on March 3 in Kohima.
During the mock drill exercise, a simulating earthquake scenario was created at Sr. Treasury Office building (North) Kohima, DESO building, LRSO office, DPRO office, ADC Planning Office, DEO (Election), NSLSA office building, Commissioner’s Office; and the DB’s court presuming to be partially collapsed and affected by the fire.
The search and rescue team involving 24 personnel from SDRF and 31 personnel from NDRF along with personnel from Fire and Emergency services, Power and Police conducted the rescue operation in which 23 casualties were reported and taken care of by the medical teams.
The main staging area was at Kohima local ground where NDRF, SDRF, and all other line departments and stakeholders reported at the area after the emergency siren was sounded at 11a.m to respond to the disaster.
After the mock drill exercise, debriefing was held at DC’s Conference Hall with DCG, MedozhaliePienyü; Joint Commissioner, Jamithung and Assistant Commissioner, VineikhoTetso as the Observers. The observers congratulated the DDMA, search & rescue teams, and all the stakeholders for the successful conduct of the exercise.
On the overall observation of the exercise, the observer pointed out some room for improvement in the area of communication, traffic management, command system, and time management to save energy and resources in the event of a disaster.
The mock drill exercise was jointly organised by DDMA, Kohima in collaboration with Home Guards and Civil Defence & SDRF Kohima and 12 Bn. NDRF, Kohima Team.
