Dimapur, March 25: An introductory meeting of Excise Department officials with Moatoshi Longkumer, Advisor for Excise, Labour, Employment & Skill Development, was held on Saturday at the conference hall of the Commissioner of Excise, Dimapur.
Commissioner of Excise H Atokhe Aye, in his welcome address, expressed gratitude to the Advisor for ‘taking the time to visit the Department’. He highlighted how the Department has mostly been neglected but reiterated that it has the potential to make a positive impact on the society, stated a press release.
Commissioner & Secretary of Excise Kevekha Kevin Zehol congratulated the Advisor on his new tenure and outlined that the Department has various pending proposals pertaining to infrastructural development, check-gate activation, and narcotics-related matters.
He hoped that under the leadership of the Advisor, the proposed projects will come to fruition.
In his address, Moatoshi exhorted the Excise employees to work as a team and accept him as their team leader. He observed that the sorry state-of-affairs “is unfortunately an appendage of the past”.
The Advisor stressed that there will be a change in the system and work culture that will promote and reward meritocracy. He also expressed concern over ‘the accessibility and proliferation of drug use and abuse in the society”.
On the NLTP Act, he was of the view that if it stays, it will have to be enforced and encouraged the personnel to prove their worth as the department is fully empowered under the Act.
