Mixed fortunes for Nagaland on Day 2 of NE Zonal Basketball Championship

Dimapur, December 18: On December 17, the second day of the NE Zonal National Basketball Championship in Shillong, Nagaland men’s team defeated Manipur and created history by winning its first senior men’s game in a National Basketball Championship.
A press release on Saturday informed that Seyie Kire with 25 points, and J Baruah with 24 points, helped the team to a 109-86 win. For Manipur, Lalropuia 25 points, CH Singh 31 points were the top scorers.
In the next game, Mizoram defeated hosts Meghalaya by a score of 64-53.
In the only women’s game of the day, the Assamese women easily defeated their Mizoram counterparts by a score of 81-25.
In another Men’s game, Assam team demolished a young Tripura team 135-21.
The last match of the day, between Nagaland and Mizoram, produced another action packed encounter. Despite a gallant fight back by the men from Nagaland in the 3rd quarter, Mizoram defeated Nagaland 67-53. Seyie with 12 points and J Baruah 10 points, and L Renthlei with 12 points, led the scoring for their respective teams.
