Kohima, September 15: The dead body of a missing Police Inspector who was posted at Pfutsero town has been recovered today by the public near Pfutsero.
The 5 Nagaland Armed Police Inspector, Neiphretuo Metsieo, son of Neisalie Metsieo posted at Pfutsero went missing since last Friday while on his way to Pfutsero from Kohima. The dead body was recovered this morning between Lasumi and Zapami village near Pfutsero.
On Friday he left Kohima around 6 a.m. with his Mahindra Scorpio. He was reportedly accompanied by three persons, including one female from Kohima.
The dead body had two bullet wounds in the head, shot from the close range.
While police are zeroing the suspects who are reportedly from Tangkhul community from Ukhrul, sources said the two suspects, one male and female had halted for the night at Lower Phaibung village in Manipur on September 7, at Chairman’s residence.
The woman is reportedly relative of the Chairman from where one of the types of the vehicle was also found. The woman has been identified as Ringthingchon from Lunghar village, younger sister of wife of Chairman of Lower Phaibung.
Sources said another killer has also been identified as Yuireingam R. Shimray, son of Starson R. Shimray of Karasom Lacho village.
The body of the police officer was laid to rest this evening at Chiechema after formalities were conducted by the authorities.
Meanwhile, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio along with groups of people received the victim’s body at CRPF junction, Lerie colony, Kohima.
After conducting the post mortem at Naga Hospital here, his funeral service was conducted at his native village – Chiechama under Chiephozou sub-division, Kohima district with full state honours, he said.
The people of Lower Phaibung have assured to extend full cooperation to assist the investigating authorities to nab the killers at the earliest.
“It may be noted that on 7th September 2018 the suspected accused came in a white Mahindra Scorpio and halted for a night at the Village Chairman’s residence. A lady suspect by the name of Ringthingchon of Lunghar village of Ukhrul district is related to the wife of the village Chairman of Lower Phaibung, ” the statement issued by the Phaibung village authorities stated.
“That the village authority and Youth Organization in the strongest terms condemn this kind of cowardly act and will do its best to help nab al the culprits” the statement added.
The relatives and citizens of Chiechema village had even gone to Phaibung village and met the village authorities and sought their cooperation to nab the culprits and whereabouts of the police officer.
Tangkhul organisations , including in Nagaland have strongly condemned the heinous crime and demanded arrest of the killers and award a benefiting punishment.
The Tangkhul Hoho Nagaland in a condemnation letter said they are pained by the loss of a young officer.
“As a community we bow our heads in shame to hear that murder was allegedly committed by a couple belonging to our community. Such a vicious act has no place in our culture and the alleged murderers do not represent us in any way,” the Hoho stated.
While conveying condolences to the bereaved family, the Hoho said it will extend all possible help to the law enforcing agencies to arrest the culprits and punish them at the earliest possible time.
The Tangkhul civil societies in Ukhrul in a condemnation letter said asked the authorities to book the killers at the earliest for end of justice.
“The Tangkhul Civil society also appeals every Tangkhul to extend all possible help in arresting the perpretrators” the condemnation letter signed by five organisations stated.
The letter written by one of the deceased’s daughters in her dairy reads, “Daddy where are you. I miss you so much. Where are you. Daddy, Don’t you miss us. Daddy, come back”.
