Mini Hornbill: DPON resents exclusion of Bishu festival


Dimapur, April 22: While welcoming the State cabinet decision to hold mini Hornbill festival in district head quarters, the Dimasa Public Organization Nagaland (DPON) has expressed pain and resentment at the non inclusion of Bishu festival which is a post harvest festival of the Dimasa (Kachari) in Dimapur District.
In a release, DPON reminded that Bishu festival is a Government recognized festival in the State of Nagaland, and questioned if the festival was purposely overlooked by the Government to erase the legacy of the tribe.
“Kachari being one of the recognized indigenous sixteen tribes have concentration in 16 very old villages having the traditional land holding in Dimapur district. We ought to know the reason for non-inclusion of the Bishu festival from the Government if the Kachari tribe existence in this traditional villages and due recognition to it is to be abolished henceforth,” it added.
