Meghalaya headman receives National Award

NONGSTOIN (Meghalaya), June 25: A sordar/headman of Mawlait village in West Khasi Hills District, Medarius Langrin was honoured with the National Award on Swachh Sundar Shauchalaya on Monday from the Minister of Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat at Vighyan Bhavan, New Delhi.
Mediarius was accompanied by the the Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills District T. Lyngwa and the staff of Swachh Bharat Mission.
The Swachh Sundar shauchalaya campaign was organized from 1st to 31 st January 2019 across the country as an opportunity to paint toilets and give them a facelift across rural India in order to re-intensify the Swachh Bharat Jan Andolan. The campaign garnered over 1.34 crore participations in during the campaign.
In West Khasi Hills, the Swachh Sundar Shauchalaya campaign started from the 3rd to 31st January, 2019. Around 38812 households from 668 villages were given a facelift where toilets were painted as part of the SSS contest and the best 5 number of painted toilets have been nominated to the State Swachh Bharat Mission, Meghalaya, Shillong for the contest at the National Level on SSS campaign.
SDO PHE Nongstoin Division said that one of their best participants, Medarius Langrin, who is the Sordar and also a Swachhagrahi of Mawlait village, Nongstoin C & RD Block and 4 members, who have been nominated by the State Swachh Bharat Mission, Shillong were selected to attend the National award on Swachh Sundar Shauchalaya which was held on the 24th June, 2019 at Vighyan Bhawan, Delhi.
From all the nominated painted toilets, the painted toilet of Medarius Langrin has been awarded as one of the special recognition award in the individual household toilet category, he said.
